Seashore Bracelet

It’s early enough that the breeze hasn’t kicked up yet. Sandpipers race with the retreating tide, the water brushing the shore in layers of frothy edging. There’s kelp scattered on the sand from last night’s surf, glistening in the morning sun. Purple mussel shells poke out from under the scalloped leaves, all that remains of a seagull feast.

There’s no one else on the beach.

Your t-shirt will dry fast enough. You tuck your bracelet and earrings in the pocket of your neatly folded jeans, and set them on top of your sandals, safe on the dry sand. You feel like a carefree kid as you race for the water in your t-shirt and knickers.
